Art Walk Spartanburg returns on Thursday, September 16, from 5 to 9 p.m. Be a part of this great downtown event, and walk the streets of Spartanburg! Maps will be available at the galleries to help you plot your course, and all venues are free and open to the public.
MYST, 154 West Main Street, is hosting an opening reception, 6:30 to 9:00, for Jane Doyle. Doyle approaches each of her acrylic paintings with imagination, and the influence of her life experiences. Add improvisation, spontaneity and her study of abstractionists Rothko, de Kooning and Frankenthaler, and the resulting works are fresh and luminous visual statements.
Carolina Gallery is exhibiting a rotating collection of works by over 35
of the artists they represent in their first and second
floor galleries. On the third floor they are hosting the "37th Annual Artist's Guild of Spartanburg Juried Exhibition."
At the Chapman Cultural Center on East St. John Street, the Spartanburg Art Museum is exhibiting "Andy Warhol & Friends: 5 minutes of Fame." This exhibit features intimate glimpses of celebrity via his infamous Polaroids. Balancing the photographs will be works by Jim Dine, Edward Hill & Suzanne Bloom, Claes Oldenburg and Phyllis Yes.
The Artists' Guild Gallery exhibit is "From Wood to Paper: David Datwyler and Carol Funke". Datwyler turns objects from unusual woods and Funke creates unique designs with handcrafted paper. An artist's reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.
Gallery 155, at 155 East Broad Street, continues the show of Eugene Thompson and his paintings of rural Appalachia, open from 6:00 to 9:00. This is a rare opportunity to view these works from a private collection.
The Showroom at HUB-BUB, 149 S. Daniel Morgan Ave., is hosting an Art Talk by Leah Brown from 7 to 8 pm. Brown is a former Artist in Residence at HUB-BUB.
The West Main Artists Cooperative welcomes visitors to view work by their thirty-six studio artists. As a sponsor of 2011 Hub City Empty Bowls Project, WMAC will host bowl making sessions during Art Walk in both September and October.
Kristofer Neely's Wet Paint Syndrome, at Hillcrest Specialty Row, 1040 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Suite 34, is hosting an open studio for his growing collection of art. Families can stop by and color!
Art Walk Spartanburg is your chance to stroll with friends or meet new ones, while enjoying what this great art city has downtown. Make your plans to check us out every third Thursday of the month. If you have any questions, call 864-585-3335.
